    Veronica Tucker (she/her)

    College: Earl Warren College

Major/Minor: Human Biology Major with a minor in Healthcare-Social Issues

    Hometown: Concord, CA

Advice to Second Year Students: As college students we like to think that we need to have everything figured out and that plans we've made previously must be followed exactly. But the truth is that these last years of "teenage-hood" and early years of our twenties aren't set in stone. Things are always going to be changing. So just be kind to yourself, find the good in everything, and make goals but don't punish yourself if it doesn't work out like you hoped. Things happen for a reason and at the end of the day it just makes the journey that much more interesting.

Advice to Second Year Students: The best thing you can do for yourself academically, socially, and mentally is to say yes! Say yes to study groups with people in your lectures, say yes to clubs or groups tabling on Library Walk that seem like they might interest you even a little bit, and say yes to cool seminars or classes that have nothing to do with your major! You never know what new passion or friend you'll find (:

Advice to Second Year Students: Understand that you have so much knowledge, community wealth, power, beauty, and kindness within yourself and once you let fear not dictate your decisions towards applying to opportunities, everything will be more easier to align. Please make sure you create a support system for the rest of your undergraduate journey as you cannot do the good and heavy work alone. Don't let people intimidate or minimize your experiences, accomplishment, and the way you take up space, another person needs to hear your voice. Take care of yourself spiritually and mentally so when things crumble, you be able to find resilience, power, and beauty within loss. This is your first time experiencing higher education, life, and new discoveries, be easy on yourself.

Advice to Second Year Students: The new experiences you’re going through can be a drastic adjustment, but asking for help along the way may be the most beneficial thing you can do. Having that support system to get you through the tough times will bring you hope to keep going for the better times. Remember that you are your own person and that how you experience your college years will look different than your peers, and that’s okay! Go at life at your own pace, and try to have fun with the responsibilities you have.
