Pillars of the Hope Scholars Program

Community & Belonging

You are not alone. Hope is your community.

Hope Scholars is more than a program—it’s a family. Many of our students come to UCSD without traditional support systems, and Hope fills that gap by creating a safe, welcoming space where every student feels seen, understood, and valued.

What this looks like:

  • Peer-to-peer connections through workshops, summer experiences, and social gatherings.
  • A network of staff, mentors, and fellow students who truly understand the unique challenges of foster youth, guardianship, and housing-insecure students.
  • Regular events to foster meaningful relationships and a sense of belonging on campus.

Holistic Support & Resources

We support the whole student—academically, emotionally, and practically."

Hope Scholars offers more than academic resources. We ensure that basic needs are met, personal development is encouraged, and no student is left to face barriers alone.

What this looks like:

  • Access to food pantry services, CalFresh, and emergency housing.
  • Direct connections to financial literacy programs, scholarships, and aid.
  • Advocacy and referrals across campus services like mental health, academic advising, and career readiness.

Empowerment & Leadership

Hope Scholars aren’t just surviving—they’re leading, thriving, and shaping the future.

We believe in building up leaders. Hope Scholars have the chance to grow professionally, give back, and lead initiatives that strengthen both themselves and their communities.

What this looks like:

  • Opportunities to serve  as Peer Mentors.
  • Leadership workshops, volunteer roles, and speaking opportunities.

Celebration & Achievement

Every milestone matters—and we celebrate YOU.

At Hope, we recognize and celebrate each student’s journey. Whether it's your first quarter, the completion of an internship, or walking across the graduation stage, your success is our success.

What this looks like:

  • Hope Graduate Dinners & Recognition Ceremonies.
  • Social media shout-outs, spotlights, and newsletters showcasing student accomplishments.
  • Personalized support to help students reach their goals—academic, personal, and professional.
