Hope Scholars Coordinator
Marlene Saenz is the Hope Scholars Coordinator with five years of experience supporting under-resourced student populations . Growing up in South Central Los Angeles, she personally experienced the challenges many students face in accessing higher education, fueling her passion for breaking down barriers and providing essential resources.
She earned her B.A. in Psychological Sciences from California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) and has specialized training in mental health first aid, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and financial aid navigation for foster youth. Her experience spans working with diverse populations, with a particular focus on higher education.
Her dedication to helping students navigate their education—through trade schools, community colleges, and universities—earned her special recognition from the County of San Diego for her commitment to student success and advocacy. She remains passionate about empowering students with the tools and support needed to thrive academically and personally.
