OASIS Transition Programs FAQ

Find answers to frequently asked questions about the OASIS transition programs for incoming freshmen and transfer students.

Who can apply?

Any incoming undergraduate UC San Diego freshman or transfer can apply.

Can I apply to more than one program?

Yes. Freshmen are welcome to apply to both programs; however you will need to apply to each program separately. If selected to participate in an OASIS Transition Program, you will be placed in one program only. Transfers can only apply to the TRIO Student Support Services Program (SSSP).

Can I participate in more than one OASIS Summer program?

No. Although you may apply to one or more of our programs, you must select only one program in which you will participate if you are accepted.

I am an international student, am I eligible to apply to an OASIS Summer Transition Program?

No, Summer Bridge and TRIO Summer Experience is currently unable to accept international students. If you are an international student and are interested in attending a summer program, please visit the Triton Edge Website for more information.

Can I just participate in the summer part?

No. The summer programs are a part of the academic year services provided by the Summer Bridge Program and the TRIO SSSP. If you participate in any of the summer programs, you are expected to continue participating during the academic year.

If I cannot attend the summer part, but really want to be part of OTP, can I?

Yes. Although we strongly recommend that you attend one of our summer programs in order to get the most out of the services we offer. TRIO Student Support Services Program accepts students to participate during the summer as well as for the academic year. OASIS also offers many other opportunities for academic support in language & writing and math & science.

How are students selected to participate?

Our first priority is to work with students who come from Quintiles 4-5 (bottom two-fifths) of high schools in California. These are students that come from high schools that produce the least amount of UC eligible students. Because some of our programs have been in existence for over 30 years, students hear about our services in various ways. Unfortunately, due to limited resources, we are not able to extend an invitation to every entering first-year student, but any student can apply.

Students will be selected based on the information they provide in the application as well as the essay responses given. Other factors such as GPA, first-generation college status, low income, and Entry Level Writing Requirement test results will be considered. Other students are welcome to apply, but students who demonstrate more need (based on the factors above) will be given priority.

What if I'm a transfer student?

If you are a transfer student, you are only eligible to apply for the TRIO Student Support Services Program. Summer Bridge is only offered to freshman students.

What if I can't access the online application?

If you do not have access to the application, please e-mail otp@ucsd.edu.

What is the deadline to apply for the OASIS Transition Programs?

The freshman deadline is June 17, 2017. The transfer deadline is July 5, 2017.

What are the 2017 program dates?

When will I be notified if I am accepted into an OASIS Transition Program?

For Summer Bridge: Notification begins Wed., July 5, 2017.

For TRIO: Notification begins Fri., July 14, 2017.

How will I be notified if I am accepted?

Applicants will be notified by e-mail.

What if I leave early? Will I be charged or billed by the university?

If you choose to leave the program early, you forfeit the privileges you may receive from OASIS services. Our programs should only be attended by those students who are willing to make a serious commitment from beginning to end.

If you leave early, you will not be charged by the university; however, the financial and administrative resources allocated to you cannot be duplicated for another student. Therefore, please be sure that you can commit all of your time and energy to our programs.
