"Participating in the 2Excel program during my 2nd year was a wonderful and rewarding experience and I really valued meeting with my mentor throughout that year. I learned a lot about myself as I was transitioning from my first year of college into the next. My mentor was an extremely patient and empathetic individual who really helped me during that transitional time. Once I became a mentor, I want to do be there for someone else’s transitional time in the same ways my mentor was there for me. I really enjoy seeing my students grow and change throughout the year we meet. Each student that I’ve worked with in the program has definitely felt that they greatly benefitted from our meetings together and some still keep in contact with me after the program ends. Other incoming second years should really consider being a part of the program to facilitate them with their transitioning period and retention at the university. Being apart of 2Excel is extremely rewarding and will help you grow as a person and a student."

"The 2Excel program is fortunate to have such caring staff who work diligently for the students. Rising first year students going into their second year are going to want a spot in this program because it offers them an effective way to engage with their present self. As a 2Excel student, I have had the pleasure to meet and befriend the amazing students and staff of this program and to have grown with them. I cannot thank this program enough for helping me take charge of my destiny and bringing out a new sense of myself."

"Being the first in my family to leave home for college I had no idea what I was doing or even how to go about doing anything in college. Having a mentor throughout my first year was very helpful and I knew that I would want that same support during my second year. Having a mentor throughout my second has really helped me work through any questions I had whether it be about school or personal. My mentor has been one of my biggest supporters my second year and she never failed to make me feel like I belonged here at UCSD and support me through my decision making. 2 Excel provided a space for me to be able to take advantage of different resources on campus but also learn about these different resources and be able to share my experiences with other's who share similar experiences while also getting to know more about others."
