Research Methodology Training Laboratory Fellowship

 

For over twenty years, the Research Methodology Training Laboratory (RMTL) has trained and inspired first-generation and underrepresented students to pursue their careers in the biomedical and health sciences.  For the first time, RMTL and OASIS are partnering to offer a ten-week, fully funded on-campus fellowship for 20 students.  At the end of the fellowship, students will earn a lab assistant certificate and get the opportunity to give a poster presentation at the Health Science campus under the guidance of Dr. Eduardo Fricovsky, Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy.  This hands-on opportunity is free of cost to students and consists of 80 hours of basic science methodology training in Fall 2019 with the option to continue to work in the lab on a research project.

Eligibility

  • Open to all students currently enrolled as a UC San Diego student
  • Status as a sophomore or junior by Fall 2019
  • Participant of OASIS, CASP, and/or Student Success Coaching
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 2.5

Commitment

  • Fall 2019, 8 hours per week
    • Lab scheduling will be with Amy Abbott, RMTL Laboratory Assistant Coordinator

The Lab:

The OASIS Research Methdology Training Laboratory will take place at the Dr. Percy Russell Training Laboratory, named after the founding director of the Hispanic Center of Excellence at UCSD in 1993. It is the only dedicated space on the Health Sciences Campus at UC San Diego for the training of underrepresented minority students. The laboratory is comprised of 600 sq ft.
