TRiO SSSP students take a proactive approach to succeed by requesting
assistance prior to the beginning of each quarter.
Tutoring
By request participants are matched with a personal tutor for regularly
scheduled appointments throughout the academic year. Tutors are
available to assist you in a variety of subjects that include math,
biology, chemistry, physics, and writing.
Mentoring
SSSP mentors are assigned to help students with a variety of academic,
social and personal concerns. Every first-year student in the program
will be assigned to a mentor. Your mentor will be able to assist you in
your transition to UCSD, to serve as a resource for academic and campus
information, and to be an overall advocate for your academic and social
successes here at UCSD.
Counseling
On staff Counseling is available to assist SSSP students in the areas of
personal counseling, career and graduate school assistance.
OASIS Learning Community Seminars (OLC)
Every first year student will be placed into an OLC. OLC’s are designed
to examine the strategies through which college students acquire a
network of support during their first year that contributes to their
academic success and socio-cultural satisfaction as they transition from
high school to college or community college to a four-year. The seminars
will also connect theory on college students’ development with the
practical experiences of UCSD students. This is done by connecting you
with a consistent, small group of first-year peers who you can
collaborate with for study groups and other activities throughout the
year. OLC's will also help you with strategies and necessary tools to
excel at UCSD and maximize your learning and preparation for active
participation in an increasingly diverse society. OLC's meet weekly each
quarter of students’ first year.
Book-Lending
Book-lending services are available through ASP at

receive credit for attending. These workshops range from education,
