Welcome to the TRiO Student Support Services Program (SSSP) & Summer Transitional Enrichment Program (STEP)
Congratulations on your admission to UC San Diego! We would like to welcome you to the UC San Diego campus and offer you a chance to participate in the TRiO Student Support Services Program (SSSP) and its Summer Transitional Enrichment Program (STEP) located in the Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services (OASIS).

The TRiO Student Support Services Program (SSSP) is committed to providing support and information that validates each student's experience and nurtures a sense of participation, belonging and empowerment. Through mentorship, academic programs, one-to-one counseling/advising, referrals to campus resources and social/cultural programming, we strive to maximize a student's involvement and success in the campus academic community. In addition to assisting students through to graduation, TRiO SSSP helps motivate and inform students to utilize services to enhance their preparation for the job market and/or graduate/professional school admission. TRiO SSSP is for students who are low-income, first generation and/or students with disabilities. Excellence, achievement, leadership and community building serve as the key elements to the individual and communal success of our students.

TRiO SSSP Summer Transition Enrichment Program (STEP) is designed to help first-year (Freshman and Transfer Students) to become more acquainted with UC San Diego to…

  • SUCCEED instead of just SURVIVE at UC San Diego!
  • Build a sense of CONFIDENCE!
  • Gain a sense of KNOWLEDGE and BELONGING that will help you at UC San Diego.
  • Meet staff, faculty, and other resources that will help you establish a long-lasting connection at UC San Diego.
  • Meet current TRiO SSSP students.
  • Build friendships with peers and mentors that will aid in your transition process.
  • Belong to a support program until you graduate.
  • Experience cultural events to help you meet other UC San Diego students.
Program Dates/Times/Locations

Deadline to Submit Application:
Applications must be submitted no later than midnight (PST) on the following days:
Freshmen: Wednesday, June 15th
Transfers: Friday, June 24th
Access to application page will begin May 15th.

Notice of Acceptance into STEP Beginning:
Freshmen and Transfers will be notified by July 16th, 2011 (freshmen beginning July 9th)

STEP Begins: Saturday, August 11, 2012

STEP Ends: Saturday, August 18 2012

Participating in STEP will require students to spend every night with the program and take part in activities and workshops throughout the entire day. If you have mitigating circumstance that would prevent you from participating in a residential overnight program, but would still like the oppourtunity to participate and commute, please contact TRiO SSSP Director Berenice Jau Gil at bgil@ucsd.edu
Important Information
OASIS Transition Program applications must be submitted no later than midnight (PST):
  • Freshmen: Wednesday, June 20th
  • Transfers: Friday, June 29th

  • Do not forget to include your essay responses
  • Don't forget to mail or fax your income verification (1040 Tax Forms)

Helpful items to take care of ASAP to help facilitate your transition and enrollment process this summer:

  • HEALTH INSURANCE: It is strongly recommended that all OASIS Transition Program Students acquire health insurance available for use in San Diego before entering any of our summer programs. Those students who attend our summer programs without health insurance will do so at their own risk and expense. Those who have health insurance will be required to show valid proof upon entering our summer programs.
     
  • COLLEGE ORIENTATION: Make sure to sign up and attend your college orientation. The sooner, the better. Please check the new student gateway at http://newstudent.ucsd.edu. Please complete all information as required by your college, in addition to signing up for orientation.
     
  • IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS: Take care of all immunization requirements and send in verifying documents to UC San Diego Office of Admissions & Relations with Schools by August 1. Please be advised that you will NOT be able to register for Fall Quarter classes unless you have met all of the UC San Diego Immunization Requirements.
     
  • ENTRY LEVEL WRITING REQUIREMENT FOR FRESHMEN: If you have not yet satisfied the Entry Level Writing Requirement (Subject A), please visit http://basicwriting.ucsd.edu for more information. This requirement can also be satisfied by taking an approved summer school class at a community college.
     
  • MATH PLACEMENT FOR FRESHMEN: If you plan on taking any math or science courses, please visit http://mathtesting.ucsd.edu/ for more information. You must have some type of Math Placement test results in order to enroll in any UC San Diego math course and some science classes.
     
  • TRANSCRIPTS: Please be sure that your final high school and/or community college transcripts are received by UC San Diego by the July 15th deadline! The transcripts should be sent to:

    The final validation process of transcripts confirms that all freshman admissions provisions have been cleared. If you have received a grade lower than a "C", in any A-G coursework during grade 12, or your weighted GPA for A-G coursework in grade 12 is below a 3.0, you must provide a written explanation as soon as possible to the Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools.

    PLEASE DO NOT SEND TRANSCRIPTS TO OASIS!
     
  • ADVANCED PLACEMENT SCORES: Make sure that UC San Diego’s Office of Admissions & Relations with Schools receives your Advanced Placement exam scores.
     
  • UCSD E-MAIL ACCOUNTS: Begin to check your UC San Diego email accounts. This is the official mode of communication at UC San Diego. http://acs.ucsd.edu/students/
