OASIS Transition Programs

Frequently Asked Questions
  • Can I apply to more than one program?
Yes. You are welcome to apply to all three programs.

  • Can I participate in more than one program?
No. Although you may apply to one or more of our programs, you must select only one program in which will participate if you are accepted.

  • Can I just participate in the summer part?
No. The summer programs are a part of the academic year services provided by the Academic Transition Program and the TRIO Student Support Services Program. If you participate in any of the summer programs, you are expected to continue participating during the academic year.

  • If I cannot attend the summer part, but really want to be part of OTP, can I?
Yes. Although we strongly recommend that you attend one of our summer programs in order to get the most out the services we offer, the Academic Transition Program and the TRIO Student Supports Services accepts students to participate during the summer as well as for the academic year. Students who cannot attend in the summer are invited to begin participation at the beginning of Fall Quarter 2008.

  • As a Freshman, how was I invited to participate?
Our first priority is to work with students who come from Quintiles 4-5 (bottom two-fifths) of high schools in California. These are students that come from high schools that produce the least amount of UC eligible students. Because some of our programs have been in existence for over 30 years, students hear about our services in various ways. Unfortunately, due to limited resources, we are not able to extend an invitation to every entering first year student, however any student can apply.

  • How are students selected to participate?
Students will be selected based on the information they provide in the application as well as the essay responses given. Other factors such as GPA, first-generation college status, low income, and Entry Level Writing Requirement test results will be considered. Other students are welcome to apply, but students who demonstrate more need, based on the above factors will be given priority.

  • What if I am a transfer student?
If you are a transfer student, you are only eligible to apply for the TRIO Student Support Services Program. Summer Bridge and the Academic Transition Program are offered only to freshman students.

  • As a transfer student, how was I invited to participate?
The TRIO Student Support Services Program receives information for all entering transfer students. We use this information to outreach to identified first-generation, low-income students. Unfortunately, due to limited resources, we are not able to extend an invitation to every entering transfer student, however any student can apply.

  • When can I begin applying for OASIS Transition Programs?
Access to the application page will begin after May 1st.

  • How do I get an access code to apply?
Access codes will be given after May 1st via e-mail/post mail.

  • When will I be notified if I am accepted into an OASIS Transition Program?
For Freshmen: Notification begins Friday, July 7, 2008.
For Transfers: Notification begins Friday, July 14, 2008.

  • How will I be notified if I am accepted?
Applicants will be notified by mail and email.

  • What if I leave early? Will I be charged or billed by the university?
If you choose to leave the program early, you forfeit the privileges you may receive from OASIS services. Our programs should only be attended by those students who are willing to make a serious commitment from beginning to end. If you leave early, you will not be charged by the university; however, the financial and administrative resources allocated to you cannot be duplicated for another student. Therefore, please be sure that you can commit all of your time and energy to our programs.
