Welcome to the Academic Transition Program! CONGRATULATIONS on your admission to the University of California, San Diego! The Academic Transition Program (ATP) at UCSD is located in the Office of Academic Support & Instructional Services (OASIS). ATP students are freshmen who, when applying to UCSD, demonstrated high levels of motivation, determination, involvement, and potential. Our experiences as well as educational studies have shown that freshman students who make a good start academically are more likely to continue their success, get involved in leadership and other campus activities, and ultimately contribute to the campus environment. At the same time, university education should do more for students than merely provide them with the training and credentials necessary to enter their respective chosen profession. For the benefit of students, and to fulfill its mission of developing leadership for an increasingly diverse American society, ATP provides an environment where students develop an understanding of academic and social issues and the strategies to address them. Another important benefit of a university education is the social relationships developed among peers. These relationships will help develop study groups that increase academic success, provide support during challenging times and build networks among professionals for post-graduate activities. Therefore, an additional objective of ATP is for students to make friendships and build social networks during their first year at the university. Each student is assigned an Academic Transition Counselor (ATC) and OASIS Learning Community (OLC) that will ensure that these goals are being met.
