The OASIS Approach to Academic Support

     Welcome to OASIS!  OASIS (Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services) is
UCSD's learning center where most of the free tutoring on campus os provided.  All UCSD
students are eligible to recieve OASIS services!  Each year OASIS serves 3,000 students
in language, math, science, study skills, and writing as well as counseling and mentoring.
The great majority of these are outstanding students who want to maximize their academic
achievement so they can enter medical school, law school, graduate school, or a good job
after graduation from UCSD.
     
     Indeed, virtually all UCSD students are high achievers.  This means that UCSD is an 
extremely competitive, challenging campus!  Students who try to make it "on their own"
often become lonely and alienated, suffer academically, and leave UCSD without developing
social skills that are important to employers.  OASIS works to facilitate your academic 
development as you want it!  We believe in one very important educational principle:
students learn and develop the most when they are challenged, supported, and when 
learning is shared!  This principle is supported by extensive research.
